Well... In this case, my excited opinion about J-doramas got some quite significant cracks during the time and right now, I´m somehow fed up of them, so I don´t watch any at the moment. But that doesn´t mean I´m not looking forward to Kame´s Tokyo Bandwagon! XD
Doramas - Alfa and Omega of Japanese TV stations
Konnichiwa minna!
As you can see from the title, I´m not finished with praising Japanese stuff yet. :) I wanna write a little about Japanese doramas (or dramas, if you like). It´s a mystery to me, why I encountered them only a year ago or so, when I´m fond of Japan for such a long time already. But whatever, I´m glad I did.
In my opinion, those incredibly stupid soap operas or most of American series are nothing compared to J-doramas.
There are three main differences between them, I´d like to mention.
Firstly, doramas usually have only 10-11 episodes 40-50 minutes long and that´s it, end of the story, thank you very much. So there are no weak links in the plot of each episode, something is going on all the time and keeping you glued at the screen. On the contrary, series of other countries productions have 20-24 episodes in each of few sequences and main characters spend a lot of time talking about obvious facts or even better – about nothing. Sometimes it feels like the series will keep going forever, for example Muneca Brava (Wild Angel) from South America; Stargate - one of the American good examples though; Buffy, the Vampire Slayer or Smallville - I really thought I won´t be able to watch this till the end.
Secondly… Other series are released after they´re completely done. But J-doramas are aired on TV while shooting is still going on. So, Japanese viewers get really fresh thing for watching.
Thirdly… Doramas are trying to be perfect at any genre it belongs to – tearful drama, action thriller, comedy… In different productions I have very often a feeling that they don´t know, what they were shooting at all and they´re focused on effect not on the story.
But there´re also very good series, I admit. I don´t consider all of them the same. :)
Most of doramas are based on manga. And again… I´m wondering why the hell I got to doramas so late! Maybe there´s just too much good Japanese stuff to find out about it all at once, sigh…
It was actually my sis, who started to watch one dorama first. I think we were both looking for something, where Takaoka Sousuke starred, who we started to like very much in Crows Zero movie, but she was the first one to find something. And she told me to watch Rookies. And that´s the same case for me as Beyblade or Naruto – it will stay in my heart forever.
Maybe some of you know the story of certain baseball club… I love it! If you haven´t seen this so far, I strongly recommend it. Funny, tearful, thrilling. I´ve never been interested in baseball before, it seemed deadly boring to me, but I could watch Rookies games for hours! God, I started to study the rules of baseball because of watching this! And after 11 episodes there is live action movie, too. Yeah, and I got addicted to the main song Kiseki by Greeeen. I was listening to it all the time for maybe two months. :)
Well, since my first dorama experience was so strong, of course I started to look for others. And that´s how I sunk into high-school doramas like crazy – the list of them below.
Thanks to doramas I found out about a lot of songs and actors (and got more and more crazy about it). *very grateful*
It seems that Japanese TV stations are basically in a war with each other, as they do anything possible to have the best rating for their dorama, not to mention creating of specific music background for each of them, changing start times etc. It´s crazy and I really don´t want to start describing this in any details... I could stay here typing this article till midnight and you know, I´ve got better things to do. :D
Doramas, I watched so far… It seems enough but in comparison with how many doramas were aired, it´s just a tiny part of them. It´s ordered according to a year it was aired, not according to what order I watched them...
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (1998)
This is the oldest one I´ve seen so far, I liked it very much. There is small Oguri Shun starring and so cute!
Gokusen (2002)
Matsumoto Jun in the role I liked him the most. Plus Oguri Shun again. :)
- OMG, I wrote that I liked Matsumoto??? What was with me? XD
Ichi Rittoru no Namida (2005)
Based on the true story of a girl with serious disease, tearful and heartbreaking, I´ve never cried so much as watching this one... Starring Nishikido Ryo!
Gokusen 2 (2005)
Kame and Jin as main characters, KNYAA!! I don´t think I have to add anything else. :D I wanna see it again asap!!
By the way... I absolutely love the song which belongs to it:
Kamenashi Kazuya - Kizuna - how surprising :D
And the version which is performed by the whole group is even better :)
AKame forever... - I just LOVE this video... (excluding the annoying yelling in the backgroud...)
Hana Yori Dango (2005)
Matsumoto Jun, Oguri Shun, funny romantic story.
Nobuta wo Produce (2005)
Kame starring together with Yamapi - I think you can imagine the result. :D I enjoyed watching this very much, laughed a lot and cried, too...
Hana Yori Dango Returns (2007)
Matsumoto Jun, Oguri Shun, funny romantic story, I think it´s better than first series.
LIFE (2007)
About bullying, cruel, it had great impact on me, I felt like vomiting few times... :/
Yukan Club (2007)
Starring Jin! I swear I almost died laughing during watching it. :D I love this!
FUURIN KAZAN (2007)
Little exception here - 50 episodes long dorama from taiga perio, Gakuto is starring in this and of course I like his character the most.
Gokusen 3 (2008)
Basically copy of previous two sequences, but still very funny and catchy. Starring Miura Haruma and Takaki Yuya!
ROOKIES (2008)
Matter of heart, I´ve already seen it twice. :)
Bloody Monday (2008)
Wow, I almost started to bite my nails, very exciting! Starring Miura Haruma again.
- and the second season is good too, but a little overmotivated
Thanks for reading!
